It is one of the largest international charities supporting vulnerable children in 126 countries and territories across five continents.
Its motto is: „Giving children hope and a future – giving children a safe home – that is our mission. As a politically as well as denominationally independent social welfare organization, we have the opportunity to make the world a little bit better“.
For over 25 years, SOS-Kinderdorf e.V. has been committed to the needs, concerns and rights of children in Zwickau. In addition to the classic Kinderdorf, the SOS-Kinderdorf e.V. Zwickau also includes the Mothers‘ Center/Multi-generation House, a kindergarten and the open children’s and youth club Spinnwebe. Their core focus continues to be the Kinderdorf families where children who for various reasons cannot grow up in their own families find a community in the SOS-Kinderdorf that offers them protection, support and orientation.

What a Kinderdorf family over the year looks like given a Kinderdorf mother / father with six children taking care of the following:
- Buys 60 kilos of pasta and 120 kilos of bananas.
- Makes 1800 school sandwiches.
- Creams 1000 faces in winter.
- Clips 1000 fingernails and as many toenails.
- Attends 12 parents‘ evenings, 12 teacher meetings and 6 Christmas parties.
- Washes 600 loads of laundry.
- Bandages 500 small and large wounds.
Asks 9125 times „have you washed your hands?“
- Wishes you a „good night“ 2190 times.
A living group at SOS-Kinderdorf in a few key points:
- 8 children and young people live in one house
- A team of 5 educators accompanies you
- The team works in shifts
- All persons in care have their own room
- The daily routine resembles that of a family
- In house rounds together become important as different topics of everyday life are discussed
- The persons in care live in the medium to long term in a residential group
Kindergarten- Virchowstraße in Leipzig
“Since 01.08.2019 the doors of the kindergarten in the Virchowstraße in Leipzig opened. The children explore with shining eyes the rooms and awaken our beautiful, new house to live in. A Christmas wish action with CORESTATE
Not every child is lucky enough to have a Christmas tree full of presents. So, this year in collaboration with the SOS-Kinderdorf e.V. Zwickau, CORESTATE has received the wishes from 68 children that we hope to bring some holiday cheer too! Given that COVID -19 has restricted most of us to home office we have created a digital Christmas calendar so that all our offices can participate. Our colleagues can then view and select a wish and fulfil a child’s wish for Christmas. We hope that this Christmas action will become the start of a new Christmas tradition at CORESTATE.
